Barun: The Calcutta Painter

Barun Roy

During the India chapter meeting, Barin Ganguli mentioned Barun Roy’s achievement as a painter and announced the exhibition of his works as part of a group show at Lalit Kala Academy, New Delhi, on 14–28 December 2011. Barun, a member of a group of 28 artists termed the “Calcutta Painters,” is quoted in The Times of India (16 December 2011) as noting that the group “is an offshoot of the Society of Contemporary Artists of Kolkata that brought together leading contemporary Bengali painters to script a freewheeling artistic language in 1960. Four years later, some members quit the society to form the Calcutta Painters.”
