Banking On: Dang Fook Lee

Dang Fook Lee, former Secretary of ADB and Director General of BPMSD, took early retirement in 1994 and joined the Bank of Tokyo-Mitsubishi UFJ (Malaysia) Ltd. in Kuala Lumpur as an independent director. At the same time, he served as an independent director on some government-linked companies, from which he retired at the end of 2010. He remained with Bank of Tokyo-Mitsubishi (Malaysia) and was appointed Independent Chairman of the Board in April 2011, when, in furtherance of good governance, the Malaysian regulatory authorities required boards of foreign banks in Malaysia to have independent instead of executive directors as chairs of financial institutions.
