Australia 2009

The Australian Chapter moved to warmer climes for its 2009 Reunion and Annual General Meeting (AGM), 11–14 October. We met for a most enjoyable and successful get-together at the lovely Eagle Heights Mountain Resort at Mount Tamborine in Southern Queensland, with extensive views across to the tall buildings of the Gold Coast and the Pacific Ocean beyond.

Canada West

The Canada West group held a reunion in late November at a Chinese restaurant in Vancouver. There were 29 attendees, including, for the first time, three participants from Seattle.


Fremma Esquejo, Gina Ramirez, Aria Ganesan, Padma Ganesan, Carmen Lanzador, and Maria Luisa Dizon.

Canada East 2009

The Canada East members of AFE–ADB held our yearly reunion on 29 October 2009 at our favorite Chinese restaurant in Ottawa. Including spouses, we were 28 at the dinner, and it was thoroughly enjoyed by all.

Washington DC

Members of the Washington DC Chapter moved from summer rains into autumn sunshine with its fall get-together on September 27th at the home of Gene and Ellery Owens. The 20 members and guests included Jill Gale de Villa, AFE-ADB’s new Deputy Executive Secretary, who was here in Washington for a special joint session among international financial institutions (IFIs) on pensions, health issues, social communications, and establishing the means for future coordination among the international retiree associations, and NARO’s Robert Schoelhammer.

Europe

The 12th chapter meeting was held in Bremen on 4–7 September. The excellent tour hosts were Roland and Clarissa Engelbart.

Bremen. Bremen is an old settlement in NorthernGermany. Full market privilege was conferred on thetown in 965 AD, and in 1358 it joined the HanseaticLeague, an association of merchant cities in NorthernEurope. For much of its history, Bremen was a cityrepublic governed by merchants. 

India 2009

The AFE–ADB India Chapter celebrated its 20th year anniversary in a special meeting on Saturday, 1 December, in New Delhi. Before the agenda was discussed, Ramdass Keswani, current President of the India Chapter, announced that he had received 17 checks, amounting to $1,742, which he sent to Hans-Juergen Springer, executive secretary, for the Philippine flood relief fund. He further said that the executive secretary will send official receipts to individual member contributors.

Indonesia 2009

During 2009, the following members continued to serve as officers for the Indonesian Chapter: myself, as country coordinator; Roslaini Rasuman, as deputy country coordinator, and Sonya Pamoedjo, as treasurer.

Social and Business Meetings. The Chapter organizedfour social and/or business meetings during 2009.

A well-attended business and social meeting on 29 March at the Ambhara Hotel in Kebayoran Baru, Jakarta, was hosted by Dr. and Mrs. Pamoedjo Rahardjo. The main issue discussed was the preparation for attending the ADB Annual Meeting in Bali in May.

Toronto Chapter Harbor Dinner Cruise

The Toronto Chapter will throw one last  summer potluck lunch on September 10 (Sat), 12:00 pm c/o Dette Sta. Maria as prelude to the AFE-ADB  Toronto Harbour Dinner Cruise aboard Aurora Borealis on September 24, 2011.
